It is Friday at 1:00 p.m. and everyone in the office is looking forward to the weekend. We have talked many times about needing down time in project meetings. As difficult as it will be for me, it is important for the team to be able to walk away from work and focus on family time. Somewhere between Linkedin, Twitter, email and voice mail, the concept of a technology free day or days has become a dream for many people. I am so fortunate that my cell phone does not ring at my house. We live in rural Manitoba just outside the cell phone service area. We are unable to receive voice calls or email. I often forget that the technology bliss that we experience; isn’t available to the rest of the team. On Saturday and Sunday, the cell phone never rings, SMS never pings and the email arrives but unannounced.
So, today’s message is: “Tomorrow, turn off the phone, enjoy your friends and family, have a class of wine or sparkling apple juice with your life partner”. Basically, do something that will float your boat. Make it all about you. So that on Monday, you can make 8 hours a day of your life all about the team.
