Project Management Consulting Practice
Our team of experienced project managers are able to augment your teams to manage your projects or mentor your team members. We are committed to being strategic project partners so that our customers will benefit for the team mentoring approach. We follow a mentorship model approach. The mentorship model is a four step process which includes but is not limited to:
- We are contracted to do the work
- As the project progresses we do it and a team member or the team participates
- As the team develops the skills, the team does the work and we review
- After the team can demonstrate consistent success the work is transitioned and the team does the work
Project Management Pathology – Forensic Assessments
For those organizations with projects already underway, The Kellan Group provides forensic assessment services. Our team will assess current project status and develop a Project Forensic Assessment report. The information in the forensic assessment report includes the following:
- A written assessment of where the project is today (what worked, what has not worked)
- What steps must be taken to correct any anomalies
- A recommendation to bring the project back on track
Additionally, a formal presentation will be developed for management on the findings contained in the Project Forensic Assessment Report. In line with our mentoring philosophy, the document will be developed in conjunction with the project team and the presentation will contain their recommendations for improvement.
Facilitated Planning Sessions
Facilitated Planning Sessions are offered to provide our customers with planning sessions to focus the team on project management deliverables. The sessions provide the team with a forum in which to focus on the project deliverables: a project charter, a project plan containing estimates, schedule, and stewardship procedures. The sessions are used to determine the viability of new projects or to confirm the direction of existing projects.
Mentoring and Coaching
As part of The Kellan Group’s core services, mentorship provides customers with the ability to develop a standardized approach to Project Management. The Kellan Group has formulated an iterative discipline using mentoring to develop, enhance and / or supplement the skills of the customer’s project staff. The role of the mentor is to provide the project team with a resource to assist in the development and publication of project management deliverables. The concept of project mentoring goes hand-in-hand with the implementation of a project management practice within the organization. Mentoring is supported by a comprehensive learning and training approach.
Depending on The Kellan Group’s maturity assessment of project management within the organization and availability of internal staff, we recommend that our customers begin the mentoring process by appointing an Internal Project Manager supported by a Mentor.
One to One Mentoring
One to One Mentoring provides specific customer resources with a project management mentor on an individual basis. The mentor’s role is to provide guidance in the development of project management deliverables focusing on the project charter / planning document, risk management plan, constraint management, work packages, estimates, schedules and stewardship (reporting) procedures.
Team Mentoring
Mentoring project teams as a group provides an opportunity for all the stakeholders to participate in the development of the project management deliverables. For many team Members / Team Leads, project management is a discipline that happens to them based on the ideas and management practices of someone else. By involving the team in the process, the team is able to share a common vision of what the project must deliver, when critical milestones must be met, why the business requires the project to be done, who the stakeholders are, and where in the company the impacts will occur.
Enterprise Project Management Practice
The enterprise project management practice provides services to our customers implementing a Project Management Office and the necessary methodologies and technology infrastructure to support a projectized organization.
Best Practices: Implementing a Project Management Discipline:
The Kellan Group has worked collaboratively with our customers to developing a successful, enterprise project management practice that provides all stakeholders, management and staff, with an opportunity to participate in the implementation of consistent, reusable processes and templates.
As an additional client benefit, Kellan Group team Members / Team Leads are available to mentor customer staff from project initiation through to implementation of the solution.
Leveraging Project Management Tools and Technology
The Kellan Group staff will mentor teams responsible for implementing technology solutions, to support “best project management practices”. The team will learn how to leverage technology and improve business processes. The Kellan Group’s focus is to enable the customer to make an informed choice and implement a project management tool set that appropriately supports their core business.
Templates (Working Papers)
To support a disciplined approach to project management, The Kellan Group provides a set of templates (working papers) that are updated on a semi-annual basis.
The software templates are provided to customers for every deliverable used during project management assignments or training.
