Today, we are making ‘hay’ so to speak as we de-clutter the office. Shirley, in a flash of brilliance, said why don’t we talk to the non-profit next door and see if they need any kitchen goodies. She disappeared and came back with two people who left with a muffin maker, tea, a hot air popcorn maker and the biggest box of sugar packets that I have ever seen outside a restaurant. We also gave them four chairs and an oil painting that I purchased many years ago for $25.00. They match the paint in their office (the chairs and painting that is).
They were so thankful for all the little things that they could take. Even, a half roll of Disney(r) Princess wrapping paper found a new home.
The golden nugget for today is ‘never assume that the littlest of items has no value. We didn’t know it but they don’t drink coffee only tea. Without asking, we would have thrown the tea out and it would have ended up in a landfill site somewhere east of Winnipeg. Now, they will remember the thought with gratitude on a cold or rainy day. We made someone’s day with the kind thought and some small kitchen items.’
